Well, technically Mansfield. But are we really going to quibble right now? Beck and Cage The Elephant with special guest Spoon!? Amazing!!
In case you can't tell, we are totally psyched about this one.
When Cage The Elephant announced their new album Social Cues last week, hardcore fans that dug into the news noticed a Beck collaboration on the track "Night Running". Looks like that collaboration spawned arguably this summer's biggest alt/rock tour.
Beck & Cage The Elephant with Spoon will hit Xfinity Center on August 15th. Tickets are on sale now..
Cage frontman Matt Shultz told NME how the collaboration came about:
“We’d found a really great direction for the chorus but it was one of those songs where I was just stumped on the directions for the verses... We were talking about how to finish the song and Brad [Shultz, guitarist] was like, ‘For some reason, I feel like Beck would know.’
“Brad had the song sent to Beck and it was insane – maybe within 24 to 48 hours he’d already sent back two verses and said he had four other options. We were like, ‘Oh wow, this is pretty nice. You’re an amazing talent.’ Of course he is!”
But they didn't pick Beck out of thin air. Prior to enlisting him, they worked with arranger and composer David Campbell. Beck's dad. Connection made and we are so happy about it!
Cage The Elephant will release Social Cues on April 19.
As for Beck, he must be in a heavy-duty collab mode these days. Just this week he released "Super Cool" from The LEGO Movie 2 alongside Robyn and The Lonely Island. He also performed "TARANTULA" with an orchestra on The Late Late Show With James Corden. "TARANTULA" comes from a collection of music inspired by the critically acclaimed Alfonso Cuarón film Roma.
