In the wake of its Grammy Awards performance with Lady Gaga on Sunday night (February 12), Metallica has announced its long-awaited North American tour in support of its latest album, Hardwired...To Self-Destruct.
The group will play 25 stadium shows starting May 10 in Baltimore, Md., and wrapping August 18 in Edmonton; The trek also includes an already sold-out show on May 21 at the Rock On The Range festival in Columbus, Ohio. Avenged Sevenfold, Volbeat and Gojira will be supporting Metallica on the tour in various configurations.
General public ticket sale start on Friday (February 17), with pre-sales for Legacy Fan Club and Met Club members beginning Tuesday (February 14). Each ticket comes with a copy of the Hardwired... album as either a digital download or a physical CD.
Metallica hasn't done a full-scale North American tour since 2009, and guitarist Kirk Hammett tells us it's high time the group returned to its home turf:
"We're very excited about it because it's been a long, long time since we've done a proper American tour. I mean, we've done European tours, Asian tours, South American tours relatively recently, but we have not done a proper American tour as of late and so we're very, very excited about it and we're very excited to be able to do it playing new songs and bringing new material to all our fans out there."
Metallica will be back on the road March 1 in Mexico City and also has spring dates in South America.
Metallica's Grammy performance was unfortunately marred when James Hetfield's microphone did not work, while Laverne Cox failed to introduce the group by name. Metallica also lost its Best Rock Song nomination to David Bowie.
