5 Best Rock Tours of 2016

Let’s face it:  2016 was an exhausting year.  However, if there was one positive to take from away, it was all of the incredible rock tours that made their way across the country.  Here’s our ranking of the top five rock tours of 2016 complete with expert commentary.

5.  Black Sabbath

The final leg of “The End” tour saw the greatest heavy metal band in history say goodbye to their fans in North America. Their final/homecoming shows on February 2 and 4 in Birmingham will undoubtedly make countless “Best of 2017” lists, too.

4.  Prophets of Rage

In case you forgot, 2016 brought one of the craziest (if not the craziest) Presidential election in U.S. history. It also brought Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk together with Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Cypress Hill’s B-Real to form Prophets of Rage.  Their “Make America Rage Again Tour,” frankly, did just that.

“I went to a lot of concerts this summer and to be 100 percent honest, my favorite one had to be Prophets of Rage.  This is the closest think I’ll probably ever get to seeing RATM, and I thought the show was spectacular.  The combination setlist of Rage, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill was incredible.”
-Jade Springart, WRIF

3.  Shinedown/FFDP/Sixx: A.M.

Three of the biggest rock bands today on one bill? It’s no wonder this tour was such a hit!

“Selling out arenas?  An arena rock tour?  No one will go…Hell yeah!  Really enthusiastic fans (young, old, male, female, etc.) in the venue by 6:30 PM waiting for a real rock show.  I loved it!”
-Terrie Carr, WDHA

“Best rock tour of 2016?  Shinedown/FFDP/Sixx: A.M.  I gotta give it to those monsters.”
-Jimmy Steal, WRAT

2.  Green Day

Green Day celebrated the release of their new album Revolution Radio with a special first tour leg that found them playing small clubs across the United States much to the surprise (and approval) of fans.

“I saw them at Starland Ballroom on September 6, which holds 2,500 people. The last time I saw them was at an arena for their ‘American Idiot’ tour back in 2004, so to be this close to them had my inner teenager squealing.  They absolutely killed it, with hit after hit performing with the same type of energy they had in their 20’s.”
-Marie Daley, WJRZ

1.  Guns N’ Roses

Could there really be any other rock tour to come out on top?! The “Not In This Lifetime…” tour was an absolute monster.  The fact that GN’R took to the stage on time was almost the most shocking thing of all.

“Not only was it a chance for the younger generation to see Slash, Duff and Axl together, it was also a chance for the 40 year olds to relive some rock and roll memories.”
-Steve Black, WRIF

“This show was the highlight of the summer, as well as the year.  The tour announcement came as a real surprise…and nothing tops singing along to ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ at the top of your lungs!”
-Gabby Canella, WDHA

“The tour NO ONE thought would happen happened in 2016!  I’m still blown away from their show at MetLife Stadium!”
-Chris Snyder, WRAT

“Completely exceeded my expectations.”
-Jim Monaghan, WDHA

“Getting to hear Slash put his signature guitar work on a few ‘Chinese Democracy’ tracks was just icing on the cake.”
-Chuck Bean, WRIF

“They sounded phenomenal, and there was no fighting or name calling, which was amazing considering their past?”
-Matt Gamba, WDHA
