Earthfest Battle of the Bands Top 5

AmyAndEngineAmy & The Engine
Boston-based indie-pop band Amy & The Engine release their long-awaited debut EP, TandeMania. Asked to explain the title, frontwoman and songwriter Amy Allen says, “It’s almost an oxymoron, that we want relationships for comfort and stability - yet relationships usually bring out the crazy and ‘mania’ in all of us.” The record features six retro-pop tunes described by Huffington Post as having “groovy girl-group melodies, catchy hooks, peppy pop, classic rock muscle and meaningful lyrics." Along with members hailing from Australia, Brazil, Brooklyn and Peru, Allen (from Portland, Maine) formed the group at Berklee College of Music in early 2014, after her appearance on The Voice. The six-piece band has earned continual praise from Boston’s leading tastemakers The Boston Herald, Vanyaland, Allston Pudding and Sound of Boston, and has garnered national recognition from Teen Vogue, EW and Blackbook Magazine. Nominated by the New England Music Awards as 2014’s Best New Act, the group has performed for VH1’s Save The Music Foundation, NYC’s CMJ and Boston’s Listen Local, and has opened 2015 shows for Kasey Musgraves, Vance Joy, The Veronicas, Rachel Platten and more.

Elizabeth VaughanElizabeth Vaughan
Elizabeth has been in love with music since the age of two when she would demand that her mother sing through the entire catalog of Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes for hours a day. Piano lessons came next, then choir and afternoons spent imitating the vocal stylings of her idols. Ella Fitzgerald. Joni Mitchell. Even the sometimes-over-the-top Mariah Carey. Eventually, in the aftermath of a confusing bout with love during college, she took a stab at writing a song. It wasn't any kind of poetic masterpiece, but it was actually pretty damn good. Since then, she has steadily (erratically, really) created a collection of original songs about everything from burning toast to learning to live with uncertainty.  Take a listen and see what you think.

Flight of FireFlight of Fire
Comprised of four vivacious and skilled women, this dynamic and passionate band explores the musical textures of high-energy hard rock, sensitive folk rock, and everything in between. Equipped with a vivacious female lead vocalist, belting beautiful melodies with power; identical twin sisters creating a harmony of electrifying guitar leads and gritty bass grooves; and a woman of mind-blowing rhythmic inspiration keeping the pocket tight, Flight of Fire is a force to be reckoned with.

Matt YorkMatt York
Matt York grew up in Foxboro catching virtually every concert held there. He started playing the clubs of Boston as a teenager and became the longtime frontman of indie band, Wide Iris. Wide Iris released four CDs, received airplay on nearly every local radio station and played over 400 shows throughout the Northeast. They appeared in the 2000 WBCN Rock and Rumble. The Boston Globe describes him this way “Matt York knows what rock 'n' roll is supposed to sound like and do: Make you bob your head and pound your fist and forget about everything but the riff, your beer and your bruised heart"

Ben Cote BandThe Ben Cote Band
Pyrotechnic guitars, big heavy drums, and the Rock N Roll lifestyle that seems to be lacking in today’s music industry make up The Ben Cote Band. The Ben Cote Band formed in the summer of 2014 in central Massachusetts. Lead guitarist and Berklee College of Music student, Ben Cote teamed up with the heavy-hitting Sam Mogel on drums, whose energy and attitude are just blistering with true Rock N’ Roll. Bassist, and Berklee College of Music classmate, Max Dziewit, completes their current lineup. Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Guns N Roses, Ozzy Osbourne, Cream, The Runaways, Hanoi Rocks, and The Ramones are just a few of the band’s many musical influences. The BCB have recorded a 4 song EP, which is available on iTunes. They have also filmed their first music video with video director Bobby Gendron, of their song "Horseshoes and Hand Grenades. The Ben Cote Band broke into the Worcester live music scene and it still very active, frequently playing at venues such as Partners Pub, Breakaway Billiards, The Lucky Dog Music Hall, The Palladium, Three G's, and Beatnik's just to name a few. You can also see them playing shows in Boston, especially at Berklee College of Music.
