Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney just dropped the first new song from The Black Keys in about five years and it was worth the wait!
The Black Keys released the moody, psychedelic Turn Blue in 2014. Since that time, singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach has done just about everything except make music for The Black Keys. He announced garage-rock ensemble The Arcs in 2015. In 2017 he released his second solo album Waiting on a Song. He also produced albums for about a dozen other artists during that span!
Drummer Patrick Carney may lack his bandmate's prolificacy, but he's been up to some cool stuff as well. He composed the theme to the Netflix series Bojack Horseman with his late uncle Ralph Carney. In 2016 he married singer Michelle Branch and they had their first child together last year.
Given the diversity of those many projects, what will new music for The Black Keys sound like? Well, the answer is remarkably straightforward. "Lo/Hi" is pure psych-rock boogie with dirty riffs and a big hook and a touch of soul from the ladies singing backup. It blends the sounds from the rockin', Grammy-winning El Camino and the trippy Turn Blue. In fact, if "Gold On The Ceiling" and "Fever" had a baby, it might be "Lo/Hi".
New single "Lo/Hi" by The Black Keys is out now!
