Tame Impala, Weezer, The 1975 To Perform At Coachella 2019

Coachella kickstarts the avalanche of 2019 music festival lineup announcements with its two huge weekends in the California desert.

Coachella has held onto its status as one of America's highest profile destination festivals. While we in Beantown eagerly await the Boston Calling lineup, we can at least peek at the artists our west coast friends will enjoy.

I count about ten or so Alt 92.9 artists ranging from big names like Weezer, The 1975, and CHVRCHES to buzzy, 'small font' acts like The Interrupters and Alice Merton. Tame Impala graduating to headlining status is impressive. Billie Eilish is like a damn meteor, as anyone lucky enough to see her recent House Of Blues Boston Show can attest. About a quarter of the 'large print' bands are at least relative to the alt/indie world.

Rock continues to take a bit of a backseat at the biggest destination festivals like Coachella, but for music fans with diverse tastes there's definitely something for everyone. In a post-Prince world, the Friday triumvirate of Childish Gambino, Janelle Monae, and The 1975 will each straight-up SLAY. And there's plenty of hip hop and dance music as usual.

Other acts I recommend seeing for fellow alt/indie fans include Blood Orange, Turnstile, A R I Z O N A, Soccer Mommy, U.S. Girls, and Iceage. And Superorganism put on a very unique show.
