NEW MUSIC: The 1975 "Love It If We Made It"

UPDATE: Now with 100% more official video! The 1975 frontman Matty Healy rips lyrics right from the headlines for "Love It If We Made It".

"Love It If We Made It" feels like a snapshot of our times. "Modernity has failed us," repeats Healy throughout the track as he aims his lyrics at different aspects of our society. Racial inequity (allusions to Black Lives Matter and Colin Kaepernick). Digital media polarizing society. Refugee crises. The death of Lil Peep. President Donald Trump gets an entire verse to himself (with a Kanye West cameo). Healy wails through them all over a muscular four-on-the-floor beat.

And Healy doesn't let himself off the hook either. The first two verses each open with pointed self-observations - like his battle with drug addiction or acknowledging the irony of being photographed smoking in front of a graveyard. He's not above anything.

But for all the world's faults and challenges, "I'd love it if we made it," he repeats. And wouldn't we all?

UPDATE: The official "Love It If We Made It" clip that arrived late last week brings Matty Healy's socially conscious lyrics to life in a visual collage like a contemporary "We Didn't Start The Fire". With bright, shimmering synthwave from bands like The 1975 and Bleachers, losing yourself in the music and missing the lyrics can be easy; so this video finds the band performing in silhouette, careful not to obscure the message of how screwed up our world is.
