NEW MUSIC: Mumford And Sons "Guiding Light"

The banjos are back! But our first taste of new Mumford And Sons also sounds big and spacious like their rock-leaning 'Wilder Mind' album.

Mumford And Sons faced mixed reviews following their mostly electric, plugged-in third album Wilder Mind. On the one hand the decision likely alienated some fans. On the other, Mumford's rootsy sound was kind of polarizing anyway. It's a difficult position for a popular artist. Keep making similar material or progress and evolve?

"Guiding Light" aims to find middle ground. The song begins folky and acoustic, but electric guitars provide texture approaching the hook and there are jangly melodies with a U2 "Where The Streets Have No Name" vibe. Marcus Mumford's voice soars in the chorus delivering lyrics on the power of love.
