Bishop Briggs restrains her powerful voice, opting instead for a sultry Lana Del Rey vibe.
She trades the bombast of tracks like "River" and "White Flag" for something sexier on "Baby". Bishop intended this song to be less metaphorical and dark but more direct. Plus, there's also a feminist statement here. She told Billboard:
The contents and the lyrics of the song are talking about my sex life, essentially. Men talk about their sex lives all the time, and people don’t blink an eye... I think the biggest thing I want people to take away from the song is that empowerment aspect.
I was lowkey curious about the lyrics at first because these sound like bad relationship decisions. But Bishop, talking about how she felt writing the song, alleviates any concerns. "It’s such a cheeky song, and it’s so light, and it’s so happy... [in the lyrics] is how I talk to my girlfriends, when we’re talking about our love lives."
