Dave Grohl Names His Favorite Opening Band - Amy Brooks

Let's face it, when Dave Grohl talks... people listen.  So when this stream on consciousness and revelation was said I for one was listening. Inquiring minds after all. In a recent interview with Radio X in the UK Dave Grohl revealed the best band he's ever had open for Foo Fighters.  And you may or may not know this band...which by the way, is just one more thing to add to my mental list of Why I Love Dave.

Despite Biffy Clyro, Wolf Alice, The Kills and even Death Cab For Cutie and Royal Blood opening for the mighty Foos over the years, it’s The Struts who have Dave's full attention and endorsement and here's why:

“I guess they don’t get a lot of love in England, but in America, they’re the best opening band we’ve ever had”, Grohl told Radio X.  “That kid Luke, the singer, it’s unbelievable. He’ll walk out in front of an audience in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where nobody has ever heard of them and by the end of the show he’ll have the entire audience in the palm of his hand.”

He added: I love seeing that. To see an audience turn like that is not easy.”

But for even more insight as to why he loves choosing support bands and his methods behind who to bring with them because after all a huge platform gives these opening acts a leg-up from other struggling new bands.

“One of the great things about being in the position we’re in – playing these big shows is that we get to decide who’s playing with us, and we try to expose new audiences to great new music that they maybe might not otherwise heard”, he said.

“Bands like Wolf Alice and The Cribs, they’re huge and they don’t need our help. But sometimes we’ll take out a lesser known band and have them come out on the road with us.”

Like I said one more reason to love Dave.

If you aren't familiar with The Struts, here's a little taste.
