In 1996, there was no touching Oasis in their native U.K.
In that year, the band booked two shows on the grounds of Knebworth House, a castle in Hertfordshire, England. They played two nights before 125,000 people each night. Tickets were available via application raffle. Over 2.6 million people applied for tickets. The shows even had a special radio station that fans were able to pick up within a 20-mile radius of the venue that, of course, played Oasis and provided traffic reports heading toward Knebworth.
Only three short years before these shows, Oasis were just a local Manchester band looking to make it big.
Oasis was the perfect example of incredible songs, incredible talent and incredible timing. They were simply the perfect band to follow the grunge years of the early 1990’s.
Oh...to have that combination to happen in the rock world again.
