Breaking New Music: Gorillaz "Humility" - Amy Brooks

Ok first of all a little re-cap on what or more importantly WHO Gorillaz is.

Gorillaz is a British virtual band that was created in 1998 by Damon Albarn who is also the lead singer songwriter for Blur. Being a virtual band more than 1/2 of the creative has to come from somewhere and that place is artist Jamie Hewlett's brain. The band consists of four animated members: 2-D (lead vocals, keyboards), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar), Noodle (guitar, keyboards), and Russel Hobbs (drums and percussion).

Confused?  Well, just hang on now.  These members are fictional characters and are not personas of any real-life musicians involved in the project.  Their musical world is explored through Gorillaz music videos and short cartoons.  However, in reality, Albarn is the only permanent contributing musician, with other musicians circling through.

After a 6 year hiatus Gorillaz put out a new album called "Humanz"  and today they just dropped more new material.  Their new song ‘Humility’ debuted in Boston today (May 31) on Alt 92.9 after premiering on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, and features jazz and soul musician George Benson. Watch the video for it below.

It's part of a new album The Now Now out June 29.  There's a tour with a Boston stop October 14.  Check it out here.
