Michael Rooker Talks His 'Mary Poppins' Moment In 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2'

After seeing 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2,' you may have wondered why the line about Mary Poppins was included. Time to find out the origin!

Over the weekend, Michael Rooker, who plays Yondu in the 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' sequel shows a softer side to our favorite blue guy, but he also expresses his own little fun with James Gunn and Chris Pratt in regards to that now "memeable" scene in the movie about Mary Poppins.

Over the weekend, Rooker spoke to the press at Motor City Comic Con in Detroit, MI, in which he explained that he initially thought that he would be flying in at an angle, but once he realized he was flying straight down, he said "it just reminded me of Mary Poppins that's all."  He noted that James Gunn, as well as himself and Chris, were all thinking that there should be an exchange on Julie Andrews' famed character - which turned into pure gold.

For those who haven't seen the movie yet - there is a moment in which Chris Pratt's character Peter Quill aka Star-Lord and Yondu (Michael Rooker) are floating through the air, holding onto Yondu's arrow, and Quill says that Yondu looks like Mary Poppins. Considering that Peter Quill is half human, and Yondu isn't human at all, he doesn't know who Mary Poppins is and he says "Is he cool?" Quill, not wanting to ruin Yondu's moment says "Yeah he's cool." Yondu then yells "I'm Mary Poppins, y'all!" The line has been shared so many times on social media, and became a running joke for anyone who saw the film, which makes this story all the more cool.

Watch Michael Rooker talk about it here, as well as getting a reporter to dance "The Twist," while he sings.
