Out today (November 11) is Ring Spiel Tour '95, a live set from former Minutemen/fIREHOSE bassist Mike Watt's legendary concert tour on which he was backed by Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and by Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters on the group's first tour ever.
The trek was promoting Watt's first-ever solo album Ball Hog or Tugboat, and Watt tells us Vedder and Grohl actually came up with the idea:
"Ed was with Dave in Australia. They both called me together, so they planned this out, like, to do this tour. They`re the ones who bring it to me and I said, 'Sure, I'll try it'...I know it sounds ridiculous, (but), like, no manager, no agents...They come up with the thing and practice a couple days and go do it."
Vedder and Grohl also opened the shows, Vedder playing drums for the experimental band Hovercraft while Grohl played his first live dates with Foo Fighters.
Watt continued recording studio albums and working with other projects, including many years with the reunited Stooges.
