Radiohead Listening Party Attacked

Radiohead fans in Istanbul gathered this past Friday (June 17th) for a listening party of the band’s new album at a local record shop when chaos broke out.

According to multiple outlets, about 20 men descended upon the Velvet IndieGround record store and began attacking the listening party attendants, because some of them were drinking beer due to it being Ramadan, an Islamic holy month during which drinking alcohol is banned.

Fortunately, only minor injuries were sustained.  Radiohead also issued a statement regarding the incident that read, “Our hearts go out to those attacked tonight at Velvet IndieGround in Istanbul. We hope that someday we will be able to look back on such acts of violent intolerance as things of the ancient past. For now, we can only offer our fans in Istanbul our love and support.”
