Soundgarden's rhythm section finally has release plans for the project it's been working on with other musicians.
Bassist Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron, who's also in Pearl Jam, have taken Ten Commandos as the name for their side project with Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan and Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Alain Johannes. The quartet will release its first single, "Staring Down the Dust," on October 9, with an album to follow in November.
The group began working together during early 2014, posting studio photos on the Internet. But Shepherd tells us the association dates back even further:
"Years ago Matt and I and Alain made a record basically that nothing's ever happened with, so now they want to finish it off."
There's no word yet on whether Ten Commandos will play any live dates. Shepherd and Cameron have also worked together in the bands Hater and Wellwater Conspiracy.
Soundgarden, meanwhile, is currently writing music for its next album while frontman Chris Cornell is also on a solo acoustic tour supporting his new album, Higher Truth.
