July 13, 1985: Live Aid Rocked The World

Today (July 13th) marks the 31st anniversary of Live Aid.  The legendary benefit show, which took place at Wembley Stadium in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, helped raise more than $125 million for African famine relief efforts and was broadcast live in 110 countries and was watched by over a billion people worldwide.  Here are some of our favorite performances from that historic day.

U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday / Bad (Live Aid 1985) HD DVD Quality

Over the last three decades the world has become accustomed to the dramatic onstage flair of U2 frontman Bono, who masterfully understands the emotional heft that can be communicated by just the right gesture. That was the case on July 13, 1985 when the group took the stage of Wembley Stadium in London for the African poverty fundraiser Live Aid.

Eric Clapton & Phil Collins - Layla (Live Aid 1985)

1.000.000 !!! What do you do when you get lonely? And nobody's waiting by your side? You been running and hiding much too long. You know it's just your foolish pride. [Chorus:] Layla, you've got me on my knees. Layla, I'm begging, darling please. Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.
