Metallica Headlining Lollapalooza

Metallica appears to have its second U.S. date of 2015 set.

The group will be one of the headliners for this year's Lollapalooza 2015 festival, running July 31-August 2 at Grant Park in Chicago. Metallica is slated to play the middle night, August 1, as part of a diverse bill that includes Grammy Award winner Sam Smith, Kid Cudi and more. Three day passes are sold out; individual day tickets go on sale March 26.

Metallica begins its 2015 touring schedule on May 9 at Rock in Rio USA in Las Vegas and will be playing mostly in Europe this summer. It's not known if the group is planning to add more dates, but bassist Robert Trujillo tells us that there's definitely a priority to finally finish the long-awaited follow-up album to 2008's Death Magnetic:

"I'd say we've pretty much exhausted our touring cycles. When you've played Antarctica, you've pretty much exhausted your ability to play shows on the planet, except for the moon, maybe. So we're really excited about nurturing the songs and bringing them to life. That's where we're at right now...All I can say is that we're having a really amazing time. It's fun. It's a lot of hard work. You're looking at a mountain of ideas and, 'OK, it's time to climb this beast. It's time to climb this mountain and get to the top and do what we've got to do.' "

Trujillo was recently in Austin, Texas, showing his documentary about the late bass great Jaco Pastorius as the South By Southwest Film Festival.
