Regardless of Dave Grohl's broken leg and having to sing and play from a throne for several months in 2015, Foo Fighters made approximately $38 million on their Sonic Highways tour. Now with their Concrete and Gold tour beginning and touching all corners of the earth (including 2 shows at Fenway in July), you gotta believe none of the 6 Foo members are struggling for cash. But you might not know that if you were to see drummer Taylor Hawkins drive by.
Taylor Hawkins was touring with Alanis Morrissette when the Foos original drummer quit in 1997, and from there the band seemed to sky-rocket into the stratosphere of success. Since then, Taylor has won 11 Grammy awards, worked on his own side projects and is now reportedly worth around $20 million.
It's one of the things that is so endearing about this band. They keep things simple. For example Taylor Hawkins drives a 2005 Subaru Baja, left, and as he explains in a recent interview :"All of my cars add up to the price of one person's car on the street." And "Subarus are tough," he says. "They're hard to kill."
His second car? The truck he drove in high school, a red Toyota 4x4 from 1986.
"I don't give a s--- about cars," he said in a 2013 interview with The Bull Magazine. "All of my cars add up to the price of one person's car on the street."
Granted Taylor's wife has a Tesla (which is also Dave Grohl's 2nd car, his first is a very non-flashy SUV for carting kids around)... but as a whole I'd say it's pretty kick ass to understand how important it is for them to stay grounded. As Taylor says "nah, there's no flash". Just makes us love them even more.
