I thought Foo Fighters' episode of James Corden's Carpool Karaoke was actually pretty good! But the band has a different feeling on the process, not to mention the final product. Dave Grohl, Pat Smear and company told NME that filming their recent episode of Carpool Karaoke definitely wasn’t as fun as it looked on screen.
In the interview, guitarist Pat Smear said:
“By hour three in dude’s car, it got less fun, it kinda went on and on. When we stopped at Guitar Center, that felt like we were done, but it was like ‘this is halfway’.”
Dave chimed in:
“Oh he definitely is a music lover, and he’s a very nice guy. But ya know, I don’t mind singing my own songs at Glastonbury or The O2 but if I had to sing you a song right now I’d be too embarrassed.”
Isn't that kinda sweet? I mean The Foos are one of the world's greatest cover bands after all, and talk about being a music lover, that band truly does embrace all kinds of music and the artists who play it. I mean during their hours long filming of the episode, they included some covers but they weren't used.
“singing other people’s songs would have been easier, I could do that all day. We did The Ramones, and Rick Astley, but they didn’t use it. I don’t know why.”
I don't know why either, some idiot producer for television etc made that call I'm sure. Anyway perhaps after the news of the Foos displeasure goes viral (it already has), we will see some of what was left on the cutting room floor.
Now I'm going to watch this with an entirely different eye... oh well.
James and the Foo Fighters take a drive through Los Angeles singing the band's classics before dropping into a music store for a quick drumming session with Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins.
