The only reason why this is fun at all, is to revel in the nostalgia it produces for us who can actually remember our childhood. The Strong Museum of Play who hosts The National Toy Hall Of Fame takes nominations and then decides among them every year for which toys should be included in that year's induction honors.
Since the late 90's, 62 toys have been inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame (like Barbie, Alphabet Blocks, Atari, Roller Skates, Rubik's Cube etc etc. check out all 62 HERE) and in just a few months a few more will be added to that list. According to the museum's press release, “anyone can nominate a toy to the National Toy Hall of Fame,” but finalists are selected on advice from a panel of “historians, educators, and other individuals who exemplify learning, creativity, and discovery through their lives and careers". (not sure what makes them so special...they should ask the PEOPLE!)
Anyway, below is their list of finalists for the 2017 induction. This list will be narrowed down to just two or three that will be officially inducted into the hall of fame in a ceremony at The Strong Museum of Play on Thursday, November 9.
