Tool fans take heart; Maynard James Keenan is in the studio, working on vocals for the group's long-awaited fifth studio album.
An official post from Tool's webmaster reveals that, "In speaking with Danny (Carey, Tool's drummer) last night, he told me that the band has temporarily MOVED some of their gear into a larger space (across town) where MAYNARD is working on VOCALS for some of the new Tool material. I'm sure that he has already been doing this to some extent, but now he has more room to breathe and a better vocal booth."
Tool, of course, hasn't released anything new since 10,000 Days in 2006, though it's continued to perform live.
Keenan, meanwhile, has released music with his other band Puscifer, and published a memoir last fall. When we last asked about when we'll see the Tool album, he told us
"I'm wondering the same thing you are...As soon as I get that answer the sooner I can stop being asked that fucking question."
Tool's only concert date so far this year is on June 4 at the Governor's Ball on Randall's Island in New York.
