Foo News Round-Up: MusiCares Performance, European Tour Speculation

Foo Fighters will be regrouping to celebrate Tom Petty at the 2017 MusiCares Person of the Year gala on February 10 during Grammy Week in Los Angeles.

The Foos, who have been quiet during the past year, will join Kings Of Leon, Jeff Lynne, Stevie Nicks, Don Henley, Jackson Browne, Randy Newman, Norah Jones and others in paying tribute to Petty, who will close the show by performing with his band the Heartbreakers. More performers will be announced in the near future.

Petty is being honored for philanthropic endeavors over the course of his career, and proceeds go to MusiCares' efforts to help musicians who are in need of medical and other personal assistance.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was offered the drum chair in Petty's Heartbreakers during the mid-90s but opted instead to form his own band.

...In other Foos news, the group has announced a July 7 performance at the Nos Alive festival in Portugal and has also posted a FooFightersPassport.com web site, hinting at more European dates to come.
