The all-star Prophets Of Rage has released its first recording since the group was announced during the spring.
The quintet -- which includes Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, Cypress Hill MC B Real and Public Enemy's Chuck D and DJ Lord -- has released a new version of Public Enemy's "Prophets Of Rage," incorporating some of the original track into the mix with the two MCs sharing vocals.
The track's release coincided with the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, where Prophets Of Rage is slated to stage a "guerrilla performance" tonight (July 19), but Morello tells us that it's important Prophets be viewed as a musical entity as much as a political and activist concern:
"The goal is a simple one, is that the music has to be devastating. All these interviews we talk a lot about the politics, but it starts, the cornerstone is that the music has to be devastating and (we) have to, like I said, have to not just be competitive with our legacies but has to in 2016 be something that goes beyond that."
Prophets kick off a full-scale North American tour on August 19 in Fairfax, Va.
