Foos did it during their Chicago episode of Sonic Highways. Billy Corgan has done it (fellow Chicagoan) and he even said, "their place among the greats is secure". There is in fact an entire album dedicated to covering Cheap Trick songs (titled "Dream Tonight"). Now, Pearl Jam has done it.
Cheap Trick is that underdog type of band who are sometimes forgotten about in their own home country yet they walk on water in places like Japan. Well, Japan was onto something 38 years ago when "Live At Budokan" became the album every rock music fan had to have in their collection.
Now here we are and the tributes are rolling in...all because Cheap Trick has finally been recognized as, like Billy Corgan said so well, "among the greats."
Eddie Vedder knows this. So check out this awesome Pearl Jam live cover of "Surrender".
Congratulations Cheap Trick on your induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We're ALL alright.
Respect is earned and Cheap Trick has earned it.
