Those craving some new Green Day product will be in luck this fall.
The group will release Heart Like a Hand Grenade, the behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of its 2004 concept album American Idiot, in theaters on October 15.
Director John Roecker was permitted full access to the band as it made the album, though the film has never been widely distributed. In a lengthy statement on Green Day`s web site, Roecker writes that, "It shows a band on top of their game and creating incredible music. It is a film that inspires...This movie is like a fly on the wall art house piece. It is the first time Green Day allowed someone into the studio to film them."
In addition to the studio footage, Heart Like a Hand Grenade also captures a Green Day performance in a small theater shortly after the album was finished. After American Idiot, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong also voiced a character for Roecker's 2006 animated feature Live Freaky! Die Freaky!. Green Day has also posted the poster for the film on its web site, and more details are expected soon.
...Meanwhile, Green day has also announced that it will be releasing a special edition of its 1994 commercial breakthrough album Dookie for Cassette Store Day, which takes place October 17.
