LIST: Rock Stars and Their Causes

Today is Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix’s birthday. Aside from being a rock star, Shaddix also is heavily involved in charity work. In honor of his birthday, we take a look at other rockers who put their money where their mouths are.

Jacoby Shaddix - Winter Sanctuary:  Shaddix gave back in the most hands-on way possible. He supported Sacramento Steps Forward, specifically their program Winter Sanctuary, by spending a night homeless living on the streets last year. He was able to raise $3,222 for his efforts. This organization provides temporary homeless shelters in the winter, which hits home for Shaddix personally because he and his family were once homeless.

Slash - International Fund for Animal Welfare:  Elephants are the main focus of Slash’s cause. He and his band Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators teamed up with IFAW to write a song about elephant poaching called “Beneath the Savage Sun.” Their goal is to raise awareness about the ivory trade and to try and stop it once and for all.

Incubus - Make Yourself Foundation:  The band formed the foundation in 2003 and fund it largely by donating a portion of their royalties from albums and concerts. MYF helps dozens of charities all over the world and has raised $1.7 million. The band also donated $100,000 to the Red Cross after a severe tsunami in Asia in 2004.

Pearl Jam - Vitalogy Foundation:  The grunge rockers are notorious for their charity work. In 2008, they performed a concert that raised $3 million for the Robin Hood Foundation, which fights poverty. They have their own organization, the Vitalogy Foundation, that supports other charities picked by the band. Oh, and they donate $2 from every ticket from every show to the Vitalogy Foundation.

Dee Snider - Dee Snider’s Ride:  The Twisted Sister mainman organizes a motorcycle ride every year to support the Long Island Cares food bank, founded by Harry Chapin. Now in its 13th year, the ride is one of the more unique charities out there. Riding a motorcycle with a rock star to support charity? Sounds pretty awesome.

Blake Froling is a classic rocker who can be seen on the road belting out AC/DC songs in his car.
