Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, has been pulling double duty since early 2013. Chester started as a fan and ended up fronting his favorite band, Stone Temple Pilots. With such a big change, STP considered changing their name.
Chester and Dean DeLeo recently sat down for an interview with A-Sides, and Chester said (around the 14:29 mark in the video below), “We did talk about maybe changing the name of the band and just doing something new,” but continued, addressing Dean, “Why give up what you guys worked so hard on? This is your legacy. You don’t have to give it up just because one person didn’t’ do things the way that everybody wanted…We should be able to move forward.”
The band ultimately decided to stay with STP—and, why not? They worked hard building their legacy and why change it because one person (*cough* Scott Weiland *cough*) didn’t work out?
If you listen to the new STP material, there is no doubt in your mind that it’s Stone Temple Pilots you’re listening to. With a full studio album in the works, we are just as eager as you are to hear what comes next from Stone Temple Pilots!
